The new Solicitor-General, Una Jagose, has sat behind her new desk for the first time this week, positioning herself as one of the most powerful lawyers in the country.
The new role is also the second where Ms Jagose has stepped in following a surprise resignation.
She succeeds Michael Heron QC who resigned from the position last year for generally unspecified reasons.
It propels Ms Jagose, a graduate of Victoria University Law School, into the top ranks of the LawFuel Power List where she previously resided at Number 31.
Ms Jagose had previously taken over as head of the GCSB after Ian Fletcher resigned in February 2015, an agency that was surrounded by some controversy but also vested with considerable power.
However her new role sees the competent administrator and lawyer assume greater powers again. She has previously worked for Crown Law when Deputy Solicitor General, Crown Legal Risk in 2013. She joined the Crown Law Office from the Ministry of Fisheries where she had served as Legal Advisor.
