Sir Grant Hammond holds the position of Law Commissioner until 2016, having served with fellow Power Lister Christine Grice as partner at Hamilton’s Tompkins Wake, as well as teaching law in North America as a professor and serving as a law professor and Dean of Law at Auckland University.
He served as a judge on the High Court and later Court of Appeal until his retirement in 2014. His role on the Commission has seen him talking about how it is “stretched” in terms of what it can accomplish, but the substantial work before it, such as alternative trial structures for sexual cases and others mark Sir Grant as a key player with continuing influence.
