College of Law Builds Criminal Law Experience with New Appointments

The College of Law New Zealand has recently appointed Anna Longdill, prominent criminal lawyer, to the role of adjunct lecturer. Anna has over ten years crown litigation experience with Meredith Connell and has this year commenced practice as a barrister sole. Anna has represented Immigration New Zealand, Police (civil), Department of Corrections, Department of Internal Affairs, Department of Conservation and Ministry for Primary Industries.

Ms Longdill’s appointment was one of six made recently to support the College’s Professional Legal Studies Course which is offered in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and Dunedin. Marcus Martin, Executive Director of the College said, “The College aims to provide students with as much exposure to real‐world practice through our Profs programme as possible. This is why we actively recruit lecturers who are currently practising and who can pass on insights based on what is happening in the profession here and now.”

In addition to Ms Longdill, The College welcomes the following practitioners as adjunct lecturers: In Auckland: Amy Jardine Recently returned to New Zealand, Amy has eight years of experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer, specialising in business transactional law and commercial contracting law. Amy has worked for Simpson Grierson in Auckland and Herbert Smith Freehills in Melbourne.

Belinda Moffat Belinda was the Director of Enforcement and Investigations with the Financial Markets Authority, New Zealand and was previously Head of Dispute Resolution for Westpac New Zealand. Mark Vickerman Mark is a barrister sole since 1987 specialising in family law and relationship property. Mark has had experience in presenting papers for the NZLS and has been a faculty member for the NZLS Litigation Skills Course since 2011.

In Wellington: Peter Jenkin QC Peter is a barrister sole since 1985 specialising in taxation, trusts, construction and administrative law and was appointed Queens Counsel in 1988. He was a former Vice‐President, Board member and Council member of the New Zealand Law Society and former President and Council member of the (as it was then known) Wellington District Law Society. He has also been a Faculty member from 1995 to 2007 of the NZLS Advanced Litigation Skills Course.
Peter Ratner Peter has been a barrister and solicitor practising in New Zealand since 1983. He became a partner of Rudd Watts & Stone (now Minter Ellison Rudd Watts), and subsequently established Crengle & Ranter in March 1999. He remains a Partner of this practice, now known as Crengle Shreves & Ratner. He has extensive experience in commercial litigation and is a LEADR Accredited Panel Member.
