Victoria University law professor Susy Frankel has taken the presidency of the International Association for the Advancement of teaching and research of Intellectual Property, the first person from New Zealand or Australia to do so.

The role is particularly significant given this week's signing of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement and the increasingly important role played by IP in the area of pharmaceuticals and global trade generally.

She took over her role at the ATRIP congress.  ATRIP started its life in Europe and has grown to include North American membership and is now looking to further grow its reach globally.

“The Executive Committee and I will work to bring as many teachers and researchers in the field to Wellington in 2017, with an emphasis on expanding participation from the Asia Pacific region,” she said in a report.
